Hukumpeta lies on the edge of Rajamahendravaram in Andhra Pradesh, a short distance from the Godavari river, one of the great rivers of southern India. On a map it reads as part of the wider urban fabric of the city. The plain around Rajamahendravaram is shaped by the Godavari and the irrigation that draws on it.
