Hutagalli, also written Hootagalli, lies on the western outskirts of Mysuru in southern Karnataka. From above, it shows the pattern of a place in transition: older village lanes, newly laid-out residential plots with straight streets, industrial units and remaining fields, all close to the major roads that circle the city and radiate from it.
Much of the recent growth takes the form of planned layouts, where grids of plots are marked out before houses fill them.
