Īteya lies in the Arsi area of Oromia, in the Ethiopian highlands southeast of Addis Ababa. The surrounding plateau is known as one of the country's main grain-growing regions. On the map, the town appears as a small grid of streets along a main road, surrounded by broad expanses of cultivated land.
