Jirapa is the capital of its municipality in the Upper West Region of Ghana, in the dry savanna of the country's far north. The town centre forms a compact cluster of streets where roads from surrounding communities meet. Jirapa is known as the site of one of the early Catholic missions in northern Ghana, and the church, schools and hospital that grew around it remain central to town life.
