Kaprije lies in the outer part of the Šibenik archipelago, among the scattered islands off the central Dalmatian coast. On a map it is small and elongated, with a rugged, irregular outline. The shoreline is cut by coves, and one deep bay dominates, holding the island's village and harbour.
The village sits at the head of that bay, where the ferry and boats arrive, and it is the only real cluster of settlement. The rest of the island is terraced slopes, scrub and dry-stone walls, crossed by paths rather than roads. Surrounding islands and islets appear at the edges of the frame, placing Kaprije within the dense geography of the archipelago.
