Medieval old town
The historic centre is a compact oval of streets and squares, still partly bounded by its old wall. It stands out as the densest part of the poster.

Kaufbeuren Map Poster & Print
Kaufbeuren lies in the Allgäu region of Bavarian Swabia, on the Wertach river, with the Alps visible to the south on clear days. It was once a free imperial city. On the map the historic centre still reads as a compact oval of streets, with remains of the medieval wall and towers along its edge. Beyond it the town spreads over the gently rolling ground of the Wertach valley.
The Fünfknopfturm, a tower crowned with five small turrets, is part of the surviving town wall and the town's best-known landmark. After the Second World War, people expelled from Gablonz in Bohemia settled on the site of a former munitions works. There they built Neugablonz, a district known for glass and costume jewellery that still has its own distinct street pattern.
A Kaufbeuren map poster brings two very different towns into one frame. The curved lanes of the medieval centre and the orderly plan of the postwar district are linked by the river valley and the railway. In Paper or Sand the result feels close to a historic engraving, while Noir gives the streets a sharp, modern outline.

Wertach valley
The river flows through the town from south to north. Its banks and green strips draw a soft line through the plan and separate the districts on either side.
Neugablonz district
Built after 1945 by families from Gablonz in Bohemia, this district has its own clearly defined street network. It recalls a community that rebuilt its craft traditions here.

Kaufbeuren holds personal meaning for many families, from those whose roots go back to the old imperial town to the descendants of the Gablonz expellees. A map records both histories quietly, without needing a caption to explain them.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name and the year of arrival, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download HD files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
