Khairpur lies in upper Sindh, east of the Indus River, and was once the capital of a princely state ruled by the Talpur Mirs. Their legacy remains visible in the city, notably at Faiz Mahal, the former palace. From above, the old centre forms a dense web of streets, with newer districts spreading around it.
