Khambhāliya is the headquarters of Devbhumi Dwarka district in Gujarat, on the Saurashtra peninsula. On a map the older part of town is a compact knot of narrow streets, and the main roads leave it in several directions across flat, open country. Newer growth follows these roads, so the town has an irregular, star-like outline.
The town sits in the western part of Saurashtra, a region of dry plains, small reservoirs and a long coastline along the Gulf of Kutch. Khambhāliya became a district headquarters when Devbhumi Dwarka district was formed in 2013, and it serves as an administrative and market centre for the surrounding villages.
