Kirkby Map Poster & Print
Kirkby sits just outside Liverpool in the borough of Knowsley. The old village was small until the 1950s, when it was chosen for a major overspill development to rehouse families from inner Liverpool. Within a few years it grew into a sizeable town with a planned structure: residential estates, a shopping centre and one of the largest industrial estates in Britain on its eastern side.
That planning is clear from above. Housing areas sit in distinct blocks, separated by wide roads and strips of open ground. The industrial estate has a completely different grain of large rectangular sheds and long service roads. The M57 runs along the western edge, and the railway station at the centre marks the end of the Merseyrail line from Liverpool.
A Kirkby map poster shows a town that was drawn on a planner's table more than it grew over centuries. The neighbourhoods have clear edges and the road hierarchy is easy to read, and the industrial zone stands out as a separate district. On paper it looks quite unlike Liverpool's tightly packed Victorian streets a few miles away.

Kirkby station is the end of the Merseyrail line from Liverpool. The track runs into the town centre and stops, a small but readable detail on the map.
Estate layout
The postwar neighbourhoods sit in defined clusters with green space between them. It is a typical new-town pattern that looks orderly from above.

Many Kirkby families have roots in the move out of Liverpool, so a map of the town can carry more than one generation's story. It makes a thoughtful gift for parents or grandparents who helped build the community.
