Kolar is a large residential area on the southern edge of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. It grew mainly along Kolar Road, which runs south from the city towards the hills. Over a few decades, fields and open land have turned into a dense patchwork of housing colonies, and the map shows that growth clearly in a series of distinct, planned layouts.
Each colony has its own internal pattern: some grids, some loops, some cul-de-sacs. They all feed back into the main road, which acts as the spine of the whole area. A Kolar map poster captures that modular, suburban texture, very different from the older, more organic streets of central Bhopal to the north.
The name is shared with the Kolar River and the Kolar Dam further south, which is one of the main sources of Bhopal's water supply. To the north lie the city's famous lakes. Between them, the suburb spreads across gently rising land, with green patches and hillsides still visible at its edges.
