Kütahya lies in western Anatolia at the foot of a hill crowned by its castle. The map shows the transition clearly. Winding, irregular streets climb toward the fortress, while the newer city extends outward across flatter ground in straighter, more regular blocks. Main roads leave in several directions, linking Kütahya with Eskişehir, Afyonkarahisar and the Aegean.
The city is best known for its tile and ceramic tradition.
