Leiria Map Poster & Print
Leiria grew up at the foot of a steep rocky outcrop crowned by a castle, where the river Lis bends through central Portugal. From above, the old town is a small knot of irregular lanes pressed between the castle hill and the riverbank. The Lis crosses the city in gentle curves, lined for much of its length by riverside gardens and footbridges.
Beyond the historic centre, the city opens into a wider valley. Avenues and roundabouts lead out to residential districts, a stadium and ring roads that loop around the edges. The river Lena joins the Lis nearby, and farmland and pine woods fill the country between Leiria and the Atlantic coast to the west.
A Leiria map poster reads as a clear story of growth: fortress first, then a medieval town at its base, then the modern city along the river. Nearby lie the Batalha monastery and the Pinhal de Leiria, a pine forest planted under King Dinis in the Middle Ages. On the printed sheet, the castle hill stays at the visual centre.
