Liushan is a town of around 34,000 people in Shandong Province, in eastern China. It sits in the central part of the province, where flat farmland gives way to the foothills of the region's uplands.
From above, the town is a mix of regular and informal patterns. Newer roads cut through in straight lines, while older village lanes keep their tighter, less even shapes. Farm roads spread out beyond the built-up area in a patchwork, and the terrain adds some gentle curves where the land rises.
