Logan City covers a large stretch of South East Queensland between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Rather than a single centre, it is a group of suburbs such as Springwood, Logan Central, Beenleigh and Jimboomba, joined by major roads. The river was named after Patrick Logan, commandant of the Moreton Bay penal settlement in the 1820s, who explored the area.
