Longju sits in the hill country of eastern Chongqing, where the land rarely stays flat for long. From above, the town reads as a tight cluster of streets packed into whatever level ground the terrain allows. Roads curve around spurs and follow valley floors instead of laying out a grid. The built area fades quickly into terraced fields and wooded ridges.
This is a landscape shaped by the wider Yangtze basin, where streams have cut the land into ridges and hollows over a very long time. At poster scale, the pattern of roads shows that clearly.
