Lugazi lies in Uganda's Buikwe District, on the main road between Kampala and Jinja. From above, the town stretches along that highway, with a commercial strip on either side and residential lanes branching off into the hills. Its shape is linear and informal, with streets following the land rather than a fixed plan.
Around the town, the surroundings define the map. Large areas of sugarcane form broad regular fields, part of a sugar estate that has been central to Lugazi's economy for generations. To the north and east lies Mabira Forest, one of the largest remaining tropical forests in central Uganda, shown as a wide blank area crossed only by the highway.
