Luzilândia sits on the Piauí bank of the Parnaíba River, which here forms the border with the state of Maranhão. The river runs along one side of the map as a wide, curving band, and the town's grid of streets extends back from the water onto the flat land of northern Piauí.
The Parnaíba is the most important element of the composition. Its channel shifts and widens, sometimes with sandbanks or islands, and the opposite shore shows the edge of another state. The town's blocks are fairly regular, with a few longer roads leading inland across the surrounding countryside.
