Lynwood lies in southern Los Angeles County, between Compton, South Gate and Paramount, on the flat plain that stretches toward Long Beach. From above, it is a small, tightly defined city with a fairly regular street grid of single-family homes, commercial avenues and schools, bounded by some of the region's most recognisable infrastructure.
Two freeways shape the map. The Glenn Anderson Freeway, Interstate 105, cuts east to west through the city, while the Long Beach Freeway, Interstate 710, runs along its eastern edge next to the Los Angeles River. The river here is a wide concrete channel, and on the poster it forms a strong, smooth line beside the curving freeway ramps and interchange.
To the west, Alameda Street and its rail corridor mark another straight boundary.
