Manali is part of northern Chennai, a low, flat area not far from the Bay of Bengal coast. From above, it is marked by large industrial plots: the refinery and petrochemical works give it geometric blocks, internal service roads and clusters of circular storage tanks. Around them, residential lanes form a tighter, less regular fabric, and the main roads lead south toward the city centre.
The area is best known as one of Chennai's main petrochemical clusters, built around the refinery that has operated there for decades. That industrial history is visible in the street layout itself.
