Medina is the county seat of Medina County in north-east Ohio, south of Cleveland. On the map, the city centres on its public square, a green park framed by streets, with a regular grid radiating out in each direction. Residential areas fill the surrounding blocks, and newer subdivisions with curving streets spread toward the edges.
The square, with its gazebo and surrounding nineteenth-century commercial buildings, forms the heart of a historic district known for its Victorian architecture. The city took its name from Medina in Arabia. Interstate 71 passes nearby, linking the city to Cleveland and Columbus, while rural land still surrounds much of the town.
