Meshgīn Shahr lies in Ardabil Province, on the northern side of Mount Sabalan, one of Iran's highest peaks. The town spreads across sloping ground, and its streets reflect that position. Around the town, the land opens into farmland and grazing ground, typical of the high plateau in this region.
