Mingachevir Map Poster & Print
Mingachevir lies in central Azerbaijan, on the Kura River at the point where it was dammed in the 1950s. The dam created the Mingachevir Reservoir, the largest body of water in the country, sometimes called the Azerbaijan Sea. On the map it opens up broad and flat just north of the city.
The city itself was built largely around the dam and hydroelectric station. It follows a planned layout of straight avenues, residential blocks and green strips. The Kura flows out below the dam and bends through the city. Its embankments and bridges form a clear central line.
