Mirzāpur lines the southern bank of the Ganges in eastern Uttar Pradesh, where the river flows between Prayagraj and Varanasi. The older city sits close to the water, with a dense web of lanes leading down to the ghats, while newer districts spread southward toward the edge of the Vindhya hills.
