Mizdah lies in the Jabal al Gharbi district of northwest Libya, south of the Nafusa mountain plateau where the high ground gives way to the open interior. It has long been a stopping point on the routes running inland from the coastal region, and the town's layout follows that geography.
On a map, Mizdah is a compact settlement surrounded by a great deal of empty space. Streets cluster where water and flat ground allow. Roads leave the town in a few clear directions, and dry watercourses, shown as faint lines, mark the shallow valleys that shape the terrain.
