Mol lies in the Kempen region in the east of Antwerp province, Belgium. The municipality covers a large area of flat, sandy land, historically heath and pine forest, with a small town centre and several separate villages. From above, it looks less like a single town and more like a scattered network of settlements linked by straight roads.
Canals are one of the strongest features on the map. Kempen waterways cross the area in long straight lines, and around them are large lakes created by quarrying the region's pale silver sand. Mol is also home to SCK CEN, the Belgian nuclear research centre, whose site occupies a large area in the woods.
