Nabha lies on the wide, level plains of Punjab, west of Patiala. For generations it was the seat of the princely state of Nabha, one of the Phulkian states ruled by Sikh dynasties until they joined independent India. That history still shows in the town's layout, with a denser older centre that later neighbourhoods have grown around.
