Nekā lies in eastern Mazandaran province, on the coastal plain between the Alborz mountains and the Caspian Sea. The Neka River runs through the area on its way north to the coast. The town sits on the main road connecting Sari and Behshahr, and its streets spread along that route and the river.
The surroundings shape the map. To the south, the land rises into the Hyrcanian forest that covers the northern slopes of the Alborz. To the north, rice fields and orchards lead toward the sea. Near the coast, Nekā is known for a large power plant and an oil terminal on the Caspian.
