North Plainfield is a borough in Somerset County, New Jersey, directly north of the city of Plainfield. Green Brook, a stream whose course forms part of the county line, separates the two. On a map, the brook’s winding path makes a clear natural boundary between the two street grids. To the north, the land rises toward the Watchung Mountains.
The borough is mostly residential, with tree-lined streets of older houses laid out in fairly regular blocks.
