Nyamunuka lies in the highlands of southwestern Uganda, a region of steep hills, narrow valleys and intensive small-scale farming. On the map, the terrain sets the pattern: roads follow ridgelines and valley floors instead of straight routes, and the town's streets gather where the land levels out.
The surrounding countryside is densely settled and farmed, with banana gardens, fields and pasture covering the slopes, and cattle are an important part of rural life in this part of the country.
