Okigwe lies in the north of Imo State in southeastern Nigeria, in a landscape of rolling hills that sets it apart from the flatter country further south. The town is known for this terrain. From above, its streets follow the shape of the land, curving along ridges and dropping into valleys instead of forming a straight grid.
The centre is a compact cluster of roads, markets and residential streets, and neighbourhoods reach out along the main routes.
