Pamanukan lies in Subang Regency in West Java, on the flat plain between the mountains and the Java Sea. From above, the town stretches along the main coastal road that runs across northern Java, with streets branching off to either side. Beyond the built-up area, the land is covered by rice fields, divided into small plots by irrigation channels and paths.
The town is a local market and service centre for the farming villages of the plain. Its position on the northern coastal route means a steady flow of traffic between Jakarta and cities further east, and much of its commercial life is found along that road.
