Panlong is a town in the northeastern part of Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country between the Yangtze and the Sichuan basin. From above, the landscape defines everything. The built-up area stretches along valley bottoms and low saddles, and roads curve around the contours instead of running straight.
Like many towns in this part of Chongqing, Panlong is surrounded by small farms, with terraced fields, ponds and village paths spread across the slopes. The main streets carry traffic and trade through the town, and narrower lanes branch off toward housing and the countryside.
