Puttūr is a town in southern Andhra Pradesh, a short distance from Tirupati, in country where plains meet low granite hills. From above, the town gathers around its main roads and a railway line, with residential lanes branching off and paddy fields and tanks surrounding the built-up area.
The town is widely known in South India for its tradition of bone-setting, which has drawn patients from far beyond the district for generations. It also lies on the rail corridor linking Chennai with the Tirupati area, and many travellers pass through it on the way to the temple town.
