Rēzekne is the main town of Latgale in eastern Latvia and is often called the city on seven hills. The Rēzekne river runs through the centre. Beside it rises the castle hill, where the ruins of a medieval Livonian Order castle mark one of the oldest parts of the town. Streets and parks follow the uneven ground around it.
