Ruston is the seat of Lincoln Parish in north Louisiana, in the gently rolling, pine-covered hills of the region. The town grew up along the railroad in the 1880s, and the tracks still cut straight through the historic downtown. The first blocks of the grid were laid out on either side of them, and newer neighbourhoods have since spread in every direction.
Louisiana Tech University occupies a large campus on the west side of town, and its quads, halls and athletic facilities form a distinct area on the map. Interstate 20 runs along the southern edge of Ruston, with commercial strips growing up around its exits. Every summer the town hosts the Louisiana Peach Festival, a tradition dating back to the 1950s.
