Saugus lies in Essex County, Massachusetts, a short drive north of Boston. The Saugus River winds through the town and widens into salt marsh toward the coast. On the map its looping course separates neighbourhoods and opens a large area of wetland in the south. Saugus is home to the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site, which preserves the site of an ironworks founded in the 1640s, the first integrated ironworks in North America.
