Colony clusters
Housing grew in separate clusters tied to individual workings, so the town appears as several dense pockets rather than a single centre.

Saunda Map Poster & Print
Saunda lies in Ramgarh district, in the coal-bearing country of the Damodar basin in Jharkhand. Its layout is unlike a planned city or an old market town. Housing colonies, colliery sites and roads have grown up around the mines, so the map shows clusters of streets separated by open ground, spoil heaps and industrial land.
The terrain is gently rolling plateau, cut by streams that drain toward the Damodar. Roads link the separate pockets of settlement, and rail lines built for moving coal run in long, smooth curves among them. The mix of dense residential patches and wide empty tracts gives the page an unusual, almost patchwork rhythm.
A Saunda map poster is mostly for people who know the place first-hand: families of mine workers, those who grew up in the colony quarters, and anyone whose working life passed through these collieries. It is an honest portrait of an industrial landscape, drawn only in line and space.

Rail and haul routes
Lines built to move coal cross the area in long curves, distinct from the shorter, more irregular residential streets.
Open industrial ground
Large areas without streets mark mining land, and these blank spaces give the print a strong contrast and structure.

Industrial towns are rarely treated as something to frame, which is exactly why a map of Saunda means so much to the people who lived there. It records a place of work and a community in a simple, lasting form.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a colony name, a family name or a year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir suits the coal country well.
