Seka lies in Bueng Kan, in the far northeast of Thailand, on the flat country south of the Mekong. From above, the town is a modest cluster of streets around a main road, with houses lining the routes that lead out towards surrounding villages. Beyond that the map opens into farmland, where field boundaries, small reservoirs and plantation rows make up most of the pattern.
Bueng Kan is Thailand's newest province. It was split off from Nong Khai in 2011, and Seka is one of its district towns. The area is agricultural, and on a map that shows up as long straight roads, scattered settlements and the fine lines of tracks leading off into the fields, not dense urban blocks.
