Sherpur is a district town in the Mymensingh Division, on the flat alluvial land north of the old course of the Brahmaputra. The landscape is almost level, and the map reflects it: roads fan out from a central market area, and small lanes thread between houses, water tanks and fields with no hills to redirect them.
Toward the edges, the dense centre gives way to a scattered pattern of villages, embankments and paths set among rice paddies. Ponds and small water bodies appear throughout, typical of the delta, and they punctuate the street pattern with small open shapes that are unusually distinctive on paper.
