Shetou is a township in Changhua County in central-western Taiwan. It lies on the flat, intensively farmed plain that stretches between the Bagua Plateau and the coast. From above, the town is a close weave of streets and small plots, surrounded by paddy fields and small workshops. The land begins to rise toward the hills on its eastern side.
The township is widely known as the centre of Taiwan's sock industry. For decades, many small family factories here have produced a large share of the country's socks. On the map this shows less as landmarks than as texture: a fine, mixed pattern of houses, workshops and fields rather than a single industrial zone.
