Sotouboua is a town in Togo's Centrale region, and the main feature on its map is National Route 1, the highway that runs the length of the country from the coast to the north. The town is laid out along that road, with its commercial activity concentrated on the highway and residential areas spreading behind it.
Away from the main road, the street pattern becomes looser and more irregular: unpaved lanes, compounds and small clusters of buildings, with farmland and trees filling the spaces between them. The edges of the town dissolve gradually into the surrounding countryside of fields and wooded savanna.
