Sullya, often written Sullia, is a town in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, near the border with Kerala. From above, its streets do not form a grid. Roads follow ridges and valleys in the foothills of the Western Ghats. A small commercial core sits where main routes meet, and houses spread along lanes that curve with the ground.
The surrounding area is agricultural and green, with arecanut, rubber and coconut plantations spread across the slopes. The Payaswini River flows through the region. Sullya is also a stop on routes toward the hills and pilgrimage sites of the district, which is why its main roads carry steady traffic through town.
