Swift Current is the main city of southwest Saskatchewan, set in open, almost treeless prairie. The railway shaped its layout. Downtown streets line up with the tracks, and residential grids spread out from there in tidy rectangles. The Trans-Canada Highway runs along the northern side of the city and carries traffic between Regina and Medicine Hat.
