Syke is a town in the district of Diepholz in Lower Saxony, a short distance south of Bremen. It sits in the gently rising Geest country that borders the flat marshland of the Weser. On a map the town is compact and irregular. A small historic centre sits where the main roads cross, and residential streets spread outward in several directions.
The Hache, a small river, runs through the area, and its narrow green corridor shows on the map as a softer line through the built-up area. Syke also serves as a local centre for the surrounding villages.
