Syosset is a hamlet in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, in the centre of Long Island's North Shore area. Its map is organised around transport. The Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson Branch runs through the hamlet, with Syosset station as a commuter hub for Manhattan, and major routes including Jericho Turnpike, the Northern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway cross the area nearby.
Between those corridors lie residential neighbourhoods, mostly postwar developments with curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs rather than a grid. Schools, shopping centres and parkland occupy larger blocks among the housing. Syosset's public schools are well regarded, and they are a major reason many families choose to move to the hamlet.
