Tadmaït lies in the lower Sebaou valley in the Tizi Ouzou province of Algeria. On a map, the town stretches along the main road linking Algiers and Tizi Ouzou, so its shape is long and narrow instead of round. On one side the land drops toward the wide, flat floodplain of the Sebaou. On the other it rises into the foothills of Kabylie.
The town is part of the historic Kabylie region, a Berber-speaking area known for its mountain villages and strong cultural identity. Tadmaït is at the gateway to the region, where the valley opens toward the coast. The river plain around it is farmed, and field boundaries and irrigation channels leave fine lines on the map.
