Tauá is in the Inhamuns region of western Ceará, in the semi-arid interior of northeastern Brazil. From above, the town is small and clearly bounded. A central cluster of streets and squares gives way quickly to open land, where roads head off across the country toward neighbouring municipalities and scattered rural settlements.
