Taxkowrük lies in the Ili Valley in northwestern Xinjiang, close to the city of Yining. The valley is one of the greenest parts of the region, watered by the Ili river and by snowmelt from the surrounding Tian Shan ranges, and it supports farming, orchards and tree-lined roads.
