Terra Boa lies in northwestern Paraná, in a farming region settled during the twentieth-century expansion into the state's interior. The name means good land, a reference to the fertile red soil found across this part of Brazil. From above, the town is a neat grid of blocks with sharp edges, set into a patchwork of large fields.
Rural roads leave the town at regular angles and run toward neighbouring municipalities, including the regional centre of Campo Mourão to the south. Small streams cross the fields in shallow valleys, and lines of trees often follow them. At map scale they look like soft, winding threads through otherwise straight, surveyed land.
