Tonggu is a town in north-eastern Chongqing, in the mountainous country north of the Yangtze where valleys cut deeply into the ridges. Settlements here tend to follow the valley floors and the roads that run along them, and Tonggu is no exception. On a map it forms a compact, elongated cluster of streets, framed by hills that leave little flat land for building.
